I am developing on a 2005 SQL Server Developer edition and trying to connnect
to a 2005 SQL Server Standard edition.
I have set up an alias to the Standard machine on the Developer machine, using
an IP address and port 1433. But this server does not show up when Browsing for
Servers from the Developer machine. And, yes, I can ping from Developer to
Standard. The connection is a VPN.
Strangely, I can Browse for Servers from the Standard to Developer - but only
see 8.0 instances on the Developer, not the 9.0 instance on the Developer.
Are you not allowed to see other servers from Developer?
Thanks, Flomo
Niall,
Surface Area on the Developer machine was already set to use TCP/IP for remote
connections. And I can see the Developer machine from the Standard machine, but
only v8.0 instances.
Thanks, Flomo
