the concept. You need a SMTP server. Exchange can definitely act as that. I
use a Unix server as mine. You put in the address in the config file (I
always had to use the IP address rather than the name). The other option is
to configure 2003 to be a SMTP server. Then have a dropbox directory where
you deposit the file for delivery and it is picked up and delivered. I have
never done this, I didn't want to make by environment any more complicated
than necessary.
You definitely do not need an outlook account. I am not even sure whether
you can. RS can do two things, it can send mail to a SMTP server (either
anonymously or using a particular username/password) or it can deposit into
a directory where another program picks it up and mails it.
Note that if you are going to use SMTP with a remote computer you really
need to have SP2 installed. It never worked for me until I did that.
Here is a link to another posting of mine using google groups to find it. I
searched google groups for loehle and smtp and found this right away.

thanks for your help and I hope you get better the google are is a great
area for help and support.
Due to the tigh security in our email server I ending using a third party
software on Microsoft Outlook that work really great you could schedule any
email with attachments with it (from Sperry Software) it only cost $24 and I
just change the report to be saved in a file instead of email. It would be
really nice if the new release will a have a simpler way to send email.
Thanks
