Connect to Hyperion Essbase

Can SQL Server Reporting Services connect to Hyperion Essbase? If so, what version of Hyperion Essbase?

It looks like the CTP for SP2 will support this. I found this: http://blogs.msdn.com/bwelcker/archive/2006/11/07/radical-connector-sp2-ctp2-is-released.aspx

What versions of Hyperion Essbase will SSRS 2005 on SP2 support? Will MDX be the only query language supported?

It will only support the latest edition of Essbase using MDX since it uses the new XML/A support.

Hope this helps.

|||Hyperion System 9.3 BI+ Essbase Enterprise Analytics|||So, the two beta product can connect to each other. (I believe Hyperion System 9.3 is still in beta.) Guess I'll wait for the RTM versions of SQL Server 2005 SP2 to come out as well. Thanks for the info.

connect string problem

hello,

i use ms sql server 2005 evaluation version. i just want to get an asp
project to work. not to edit, just to work, on my local machine. for
that i use asp studio 2005. (which processes the asp files). i am
almost done, asp is processed, runs, even server connection is up.

but for hours, i cannot establish a working connection, i cannot login
to the ms sql server from the asp scripts. i try and try, nothing
works. i always get [note: this is my own translation from german, not
the actual english error msg] 'error when logging in user bla. this
user isn't assigned to any trusted sql connection.'

i am absolutely new to ms sql and asp. i myself actually develop in
php/apache/mysql. i don't have time to go deeper - i just want to run
this project, for viewing only. *please can anyone tell me what and
where exactly i have to set in ms sql server management studio 9.0*
?!!!

what i did so far:

- set the auth mode to "sql server and win";
(however the manager is connected through win auth because of that
very error)
- my conn string currently is
PROVIDER=SQLOLEDB;DATA SOURCE=DANIEL; Initial Catalog=dbo; User
ID=bla;Password=fasel; (dbo is the database name, DANIEL is the mssql
server name)
- in managemnet studio, in security>auth (?, anmeldungen), where sa
etc is, i created bla, with password=fasel; and in databases>dbo i
added bla to users (i hope so/it looks like).

i also tried integrated security =true or =sspi, instead of user and
pw, resulting in a different error: like "error while processing a
multistep ole db thing, check out the ole db status values. " i would
really like to do that - if I knew how and where! =)

sorry i dont understand all these options and dont want to - just
desperately wish to get this blo*** =) asp project to work. isnt there
any simple solution? any simple setting to do...??!! thanx such a
lot!!!!!!!

daniel

pps win xp pro sp2...perhaps I could get out if I knew where exactly to find really
exact error log?! =) ole db status and whatever... thanx again!!|||Daniel Loose (no@.reply.de) writes:

In Management Studio, in the Object Explorer, right-click the server
itself, and select Properties. Find Security to the left. On the top
of this page, you have two choices for Server authentication. Select
SQL Server and Windows Authentication mode, the second option. You
need to restart the server for it to take effect.

Once you've done this, use the connect string with User ID and Password.

Windows authentication is usually the recommended means of authentication,
but I believe that for ASP and ASP .Net solutions, SQL authentication
is preferred.

thank you. actually i had already done this. i now also added a login
name u1 with pass p1 to server>security>anmeldung (in english? login?
authent?), and somehow fortunately managed to let u1 appear in
server>dbo>security>users, i.e. below my database. my connstring now
is

PROVIDER=SQLOLEDB;DATA SOURCE=DANIEL;DATABASE=dbo;User
ID=u1;Password=p1

(DANIEL is the mssqlserver name, dbo the database name).

note that from the original project the connstring was

PROVIDER=SQLOLEDB;DATA SOURCE=xyz;UID=xxx;PWD=yyy;DATABASE=zzz

i also tried uid instead of user id and pwd instead of password, which
i assume are just aliases?, that is, i now use the same structure as
in the original project, the objects mentioned in the connstring seem
to exist, the sql auth seems to work since now the server manager
after restart logs in with sql auth, using u/p = u1/p1 -- but, it
still doesnt work. but, the problem appearance slightly differs now:
still, ie takes 5 minutes to "load" the page - but then, no error
message at all appears anymore, nor does the page itself - just a
blank screen. whats up??

i guess, only error logs could still help me out? where to find them?
where to get more details? thanx again!!!!|||Daniel Loose (no@.reply.de) writes:

If you get blank page in your browser, I would suspect that there is a
problem with the HTML sent to the broweser. For help to debug that part,
you may be better of in an ASP forum.

If it takes five minutes before you get that far, I would guess this is
because it takes five minutes to run the query. You can verify in Mgmt
Studio that you are connected by running sp_who2. You should be able
to identify your process.

As for why it takes five minutes to run the query, that it's impossible
to tell with the meager information given.

It's rather the five minutes, and *then* blank screen. the asp is
simply the 3 connect lines.

But apparently a connection is not established.

Please also see my new posting where I just discovered that all user

Not that I know much ASP, but if all you do is to connect, I would
not expect much output...

In any case, since you have not posted any code, and have given a very
vague description of what you are doing, don't execpt very accurate
guesses.

connect dbase II in ssis

I am having trouble connecting dbf of version dbase II. I can connect dbase III and dbase IV in ssis package, but can't connect dbase II.hope your help!who can help me|||

MS does not support DBBase II with their solution (JET). See the supported versions listed here-

How to use dBASE data with Access and Jet
(http://support.microsoft.com/kb/230125/en-us)

You will need to find a third-party driver, for ODBD, OLE-DB or ADO.Net. Saying that, it is rather old now, and I have never seen one. If you can understand the file format, then you could write your own source and/or connection manager.

Confusion over SP versions

Hi,
I have downloaded and run the file sql2ksp3.exe for
SQL Server 2000.
However, when I run select @.@.version in SQL Analyser it
returns the details for version 2.
ie,
Microsoft SQL Server 2000 - 8.00.534 (Intel X86) Nov 19
2001 13:23:50
Is this OK? Has the SP deployed correctly?
regards
john
Hi,
After the SP3 upgrade the build number should be Microsoft SQL Server
2000 - 8.00.760.
You could check this in SQL 2000 using the below command in query analyzer:-
select serverproperty('ProductLevel')
Can you down load the SP3a from below site and try applying it. After the
upgrade execute the above statement
to get service pack level.

Confused as to which SQL Server version the Express languages work with

I have SQL Server 2005 Developer Edition installed on my PC. I also have the Express Editions of VB and C# installed. Is there any purpose served in my installing SQL Express, also?

I've read comments that the Express languages can only connect to SQL Express databases and not SQL Server 2005 databases; however, I'm not sure how that is enforced. The 'connect to database' wizard does seem to be different in the Express IDE than it is in Visual Studio.

I've read other Express language references that say that they can only connect to SQL Server databases via something called User Instances; however, it's not clear to me if that infers that only SQL Express supports User Instances.

Regarding User Instances, it's not clear to me whether this technology is for single-user (i.e., exclusive) access or not. What scenarios are User Instances good for?

Can anyone explain this?|||

You should ask questions about VS Express in the VS Express forums for more specific information, but I can confirm that the functionality presented in the VS Express UI is limited to working with SQL Express. For example, if you use the Add New Item command to create a database, VS Express will check to verify that the server you target is actually SQL Express. I don't believe this restriction extends to code access, so you should be able to write code that creates a connection to any databases and run commands against that connection.

Again, check out the VS forums for more specific information if you need it.

User Instances are a option you have when using SQL Express, but not a requirement. User Instances only support single user access and are designed to be most useful when embedding an application into a VS application or some other application. If you need multi-user access to your database you can still use SQL Express, but you can not specifiy User Instances. You can learn more by reading the User Instance white paper.

Hope this helps clear things up.

Mike Wachal

Conflicting SQL Version Info

Hi,
I am managing an instance of SQL server which is running replication, I
am not sure what SP is running on this version as I am getting
conflicting information when I run "Print @.@.Version", the following is
the result:
"Microsoft SQL Server 2000 - 8.00.2039 (Intel X86)
May 3 2005 23:18:38
Copyright (c) 1988-2003 Microsoft Corporation
Standard Edition on Windows NT 5.2 (Build 3790: Service Pack 1)"
The version number tells me it is SP4 but the last line "Build 3790:
Service Pack 1" tells me otherwise.
Has anyone come across this before? I tried running the SP4 upgrade but
got an error during installation, something about replication.
Also the subscribers are running the desktop engine version of SQL and
have a different version than the main server. When I run "Print
@.@.Version" I get:
"Microsoft SQL Server 2000 - 8.00.760 (Intel X86)
Dec 17 2002 14:22:05
Copyright (c) 1988-2003 Microsoft Corporation
Desktop Engine on Windows NT 5.1 (Build 2600: Service Pack 2)"
Will this cause me issues? Should I upgrade the subscribers to SP4 as
well?
Please help.
Ben
the last line refers to the version of the os. The first one is SQL 2000 sp
4 running on win2003 sp 1. The second is SQL 2000 RTM, running on Windows xp
sp2.

Configuring Database Mail in Sept 05 version

I had no problems whatsoever configuring Database Mail in the April CTP.

In the September version, when I try to configure mail on a new (not an upgraded) server, I run into the following:

-- Set up Database Mail
-- trying to add profile, click on ADD to add an account, I get a:

Microsoft.SqlServer.Management.Common.ExecutionFailureException: An exception occurred while executing a Transact-SQL statement or batch. > System.Data.SqlClient.SqlException: Insert Error: Column name or number of supplied values does not match table definition.

I profiled it, and the setup tries to execute a script:
create table #tmp_sysmail_help_account(account_id int, name nvarchar(128), description nvarchar(256) null, email_address nvarchar(128) null, display_name nvarchar(128) null, replyto_address nvarchar(128) null, servertype nvarchar(128), servername nvarchar(128), port int, username nvarchar(128))

insert into #tmp_sysmail_help_account(account_id, name, description, email_address, display_name, replyto_address, servertype, servername, port, username) exec msdb.dbo.sysmail_help_account_sp

Which does not work since msdb.dbo.sysmail_help_account_sp returns 2 fields that are not accounted for in the temp table: user_default_credentials, and enable_ssl.

I altered the procedure to work, which gets me to the 'add account', but adding an will fail with:

This wizard will close because it encountered the following error:

Configure the version of referenced Assemblies after the deployment

Hi all,
I'm using the Reporting Services 2000 and the Report Designer within Visual Studio 2003. I have
configured several Assembly References (Report Properties -> References). After the addition of an
Assembly the respective row shows amongst others the version of the referenced Assembly. These
informations can be found in the RDL file as well.
I'm looking for a way to configure the version of a referenced Assembly "at runtime" *after* the
deployment of the respective report to the Reporting Services. From .NET Assemblies I know the
application configuration files (.config file) which can be used to configure and to change,
respectively, the version of referenced Assemblies "at runtime".
Thanks in advance,
Jochen.Hello Jochen,
You could redirect one version of myAssembly to another in the web.config
file of the ReportServer folder.
For more information, you could refer the following article:

Hope this will be helpful!
Sincerely,

Note: The MSDN Managed Newsgroup support offering is for non-urgent issues
where an initial response from the community or a Microsoft Support
Engineer within 1 business day is acceptable. Please note that each follow
up response may take approximately 2 business days as the support
professional working with you may need further investigation to reach the
most efficient resolution. The offering is not appropriate for situations
that require urgent, real-time or phone-based interactions or complex
project analysis and dump analysis issues. Issues of this nature are best
handled working with a dedicated Microsoft Support Engineer by contacting
Microsoft Customer Support Services (CSS) at
