Hi Joh,
Take a text book, or an SQL manual or something like that. The last
20-50 pages will probably contain an index, that you can use to find
that deadlocks are discussed on pages 574-577 and 893, and that the
SELECT statement is discussed on pages 34-108, 145-160, 254 and 664.
Tear out this index. Then, take a stack of blank paper, scan each page
of the text book and recreate the index. This activity is somewhat
equivalent to rebuilding an index.
Now, take a quick scan over the index. You might note that there are
less (or maybe more?) words in the index that start with 'A' then with
'B'. You'll probably note that there are almost no words with 'X', but
quite a lot starting with 'Q'. Assuming that you don't forget this
information, but use it next time you need to find an entry to locate
the correct page in the index quicker, then you have just performed the
equivalent of updating statistics.

confused!....cube or data mart?
hi
u can go for a datamart there is no ned for u to go to a
warehouse as ur scope is less and regarding to the cube i
didnt understand ur question.

Confused about reporting feature
I remember reading something about some sort of new feature on SQL Server
2005 regarding adding reporting capabilities to SQL Sever 2005. I am not
sure what it was but I think it had to do with the SQL Server being able to
process a full report request and return the report all ready to print. I
think it was some sort of server reporting engine.
I also noticed that Visual Studio 2005 comes with a control that allows you
to create reports.
My question is, was I smoking crack when I read all this about SQL 2005 new
reporting capabilities? Also, anybody knows if the reporting control that
comes with Visual Studio 2005 is somewhat connected to SQL Server 005?

of SQL Server have some RS functionality.

conflict tables
Hi,
I would very much appreciate any help regarding this problem. In short
again, when there are no conflict resolvers, an update of the same row
in the publisher and subscriber creates an entry in the conflict
table. But, when I use say datetime (Later wins) conflict resolver, no
such entry is found in the conflict table. Is there a way, one could
use the resolvers and at the same time have the conflict listings in
the table for the record?

Did you ever find any solution to your problem? I have the same situation here. I'm using msde merge pull replication and I cannot find data in the conflict table. However, unlike you, even if I try to remove the conflict resolver (datetime, later wins),
I still can't see the log. Conflict table does exists but it remains empty, no matter what I do.

I have two NT groups namely A & B.

Can you explain in more detail what commands you executed? Also, can you check the catalog to verify that permissions are granted/denied as intended. I have two NT groups namely A & B.
Groups A has all permissions on SQLDB1 while group B has all on SQLDB1 and SQLDB2.

Configuring SQL Server Express 2005 for Remote Access
Hello All
In the course of another thread I posted a question regarding problems
connecting to SQL Server Express 2005. The fundamental issue is that
SQL Server Express does not have remote access enabled by default.
Enabling it is a multi-step process.
I expect this will be a common problem given the popularity of the
(free) SQL Server Express so as a thank you for the help I have
received in resolving the issue, I have built a web page documenting

I hope I gave a better picture of my problem now. I've not got any article on net which uses caching without SQLdatasource.
